Environmentalist and writer, co-founder of the Transition Town Totnes movement and the Transition Network
Author of several books, including The Transition Handbook, From What Is to What If, and How to Fall in Love with the Future, he works on local resilience and community-led change, using imagination as a lever. An Ashoka Fellow, he has spoken at TED Global and at several TEDx events, and has appeared in the French film Demain. He describes himself as an “Imagination Catalyst” and a “Time traveler”, and curates Field Recordings from the Future.
The future is colonized by bleak scenarios: if we can only imagine disasters, we end up building them. We need to train our collective imagination with plausible stories that move us to act in the present. AI, too, must be brought back to its proper role as a tool – not a myth, but a support for greener cities, cleaner air, care, and human relationships.
